Privacy and diagnostics
stream-concern can send information about how it performs and the errors it hits. The developer, and AI tools working for the developer, use it to find performance problems and bugs, during the alpha and once you stream for real. It is your choice, and you can change it at any time.
Turning it on or off
The first time you open an alpha build, the set-up wizard asks Send diagnostics to help find performance problems and bugs? Your answer is kept for this computer (every profile shares it). Change it in Settings ▸ Privacy with the Send diagnostics switch. Turning it off stops sending at once and deletes anything waiting to be sent.
Diagnostics are sent only while you are signed in or have entered a licence (Settings ▸ Licence): the app uses that to prove it is a real stream-concern install. Without it, Privacy says Sign in or enter your licence to send diagnostics, and nothing leaves your computer.
What is sent
- The app’s version, build and channel, and which app you use.
- Your operating system and version, CPU model and core count, memory size, GPU model and driver version, and your displays’ refresh rates.
- A random install id (not tied to your hardware; Reset install id in Privacy makes a new one) and a random id for each run.
- Your account id when you are signed in or have a licence, never your name or e-mail.
- What you do, as kinds and counts: adding, starting and stopping outputs, the service (such as Twitch), codec, resolution and frame rate, how many scenes and layers, which Settings pages you open.
- Stream and recording health every 30 seconds while an output runs: bitrate, dropped frames, encoder and render times, CPU, GPU and memory use.
- Error codes and where they happened, and whether the last run ended in a crash.
What is never sent
- Stream keys, account keys, ingest keys, passwords, licence or sign-in tokens.
- Server addresses: a custom server is sent as “custom” and its protocol only.
- Your name, e-mail, file names and folders, window titles, and what your scenes, layers and text say.
- Device serial numbers or anything that fingerprints your hardware.
Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Show what was sent lists exactly what left your computer recently, with your install id and this run’s support code. You can copy it and check it yourself.
Help debug a problem
When something goes wrong, choose Help debug a problem (in Privacy, or in the Help menu). For the next hour the app sends more detail: stream health every 5 seconds and the app’s warnings and errors, with every name, address, path and key removed. It turns itself off after the hour, or press Stop.
You get a support code such as SC-7F3K-92QD. Put it in your bug report or
e-mail: it lets the developer find exactly that session. If diagnostics are
off, the app asks whether to turn them on for that hour only; your choice stays
off afterwards.
